It’s Back…… September

The Grace Harris Racing blog is back.

As we break the back of the flat season and look towards national hunt racing, the horses still seem to be in fine fettle. The summer jumping campaign with the gallant My Girl Katie drew to an end, but what a summer she gave us.

My Gril Katie, owned by John and Malcom gave Grace her first treble by winning all three races at one of our favourite courses outside of Wales, Newton Abott. The final leg of the treble was completed when partnering up with longtime friend of Grace’s, Conor Ring.

But it seems trebles might be like buses, when you wait around for your first, one usually follows right behind. This was the case with Macarone. Leaving August Macarone showed us that the penny had dropped when being piloted to success by the silk hands of Rossa Ryan. Macarone then showed us how honest he was when getting all sorts of trouble at Bath but still prevailing under Ben French Davis. The final leg of the treble was completed back at Ffos Las again under Ben French Davis. Ben kicked for home two and a half furlongs out and knew there was no way he wouldn’t see it out from there.

Other horses have run well, Oasis Sunrise finished 3rd in the Jump Jockeys Derby partnering up with the ever loyal Joe Anderson. This was Joe’s first ride on the flat and we think he quite enjoyed it. Coming in Joe was quoted saying “When I got to the leaders I thought, I’ve given this a peach”. Unfortunately, her legs got a little tired coming up the hill at Epsom, but we are very proud of her at GHR and very proud of the season she has given us.

Melvin Udall finished 3rd at York under promising apprentice Harry Vigors, Control Room also knocking at the door by finishing 2nd twice. Rating finished 2nd and 3rd in both starts of September. Rating has won two for us this season, one at Cheptsow, one at Bath and looks like another win is around the corner. Rating was entered up for the October sales, but we couldn’t see her go from the yard. She is now available for Sole Ownership, Partnership or Syndication. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us. She is sure to give you fun days out.

As September closes and the nights start to draw in, we turn to the jumps which we have some exciting horses to look forward to.
