April/May
APRIL/MAY blog…Two months dominated by a duo of very consistent horses. Connie’s Rose returned from her winter break in tremendous form and this was demonstrated with four excellent, albeit frustrating seconds at Bath, Salisbury, Chepstow and back at Bath again. Then finally a well deserved success staying on in good fashion to win at Chepstow. What a mare she is and I’m so pleased for owners Paul and Ann who were in seventh heaven, this being Connie’s seventh win for us, five of which were at Chepstow. Over jumps look no further than the super fun and super gutsy Halifax who kicked off May with an excellent win at Kempton under a great ride from Conor Ring. The form is working out well with the second and eighth horses running well to finish second on their subsequent runs. Halifax was put up four pounds for that run and did exceptionally well carrying over twelve stone when third at Hereford. Beaten three lengths doesn’t tell the whole story as the saddle slipped approaching the final flight when he was making ground leaving Conor no option but to just sit and suffer. It’s opinion and guesswork I know, but given how well Halifax stays on, this is one win that might have got away! Justshortofabubble ran a satisfactory comeback after a nearly six month break finishing an encouraging fourth. This was over hurdles though where he’s a bit high in the handicap, we look forward to seeing him back over fences. Just a mention for The Cola Kid who is one to keep an eye on after a really, really good run at Ascot. Yes he only finished tenth but in a field of twenty six was only beaten six and a bit lengths finishing as well as any. Finally I just have to give a mention to Ten O’Clock who we bought at the sales in late March. Her two runs for us, both at Lingfield, have been full of promise, the first when fourth after stumbling just after the start and then a narrowly beaten second. She’s on a good mark and hopefully it won’t be long until she goes one better.Take care everyone!
