January/February News…

The New Year brought unsettled weather and disrupted our plans for GHR in January. With abandonments and going changes after declarations resulting in a few non runners it was a stuttered start for us, but we did have some runners that gave their owners some fun and plenty of hope for the future. Sisters In The Sky continues to run creditably every time and isn’t far away from winning after two fourth place finishes. That was also the finishing position for new recruit In From The Cold who ran a race full of promise at Kempton in a decent race beaten less than seven lengths. He’s probably a bit high in the handicap currently but is the type to run a big race when conditions are right. Savannah Smiles is a nice filly and is improving all the time and showed this at Kempton when beaten in a photo at the end of the month.

Moving on to February and our fortunes are on the up! Racing Club horse Karakoram made his re-appearance after a break and ran a creditable fifth in testing going at Ffos Las. I always thought The Midwife would be a better horse on better going, hence so many late withdraws when the ground went heavy. So I wasn’t surprised to see her run well at Market Rasen on good to soft but I was surprised how well she won, always travelling well and under an excellent patient ride from conditional Joe Anderson she picked up the leaders very well in the straight and kept on well to win. The 5lb rise in the handicap is fair enough and it will be interesting to see how she runs off her new mark. My thanks to her owners for being so patient and waiting for the ground. Once again Savannah Smiles ran a fine fourth at Lingfield before a super win at Lingfield finishing and staying on well with Callum Hutchinson giving her a very good ride. There are still some shares available in Savannah Smiles and she would be worth considering if you are looking for some fun days or evenings in the next month or two….call me for more details!
